Comments about Da Vinci Artists' Permanent Watercolor - Titanium White, 37 ml tube

Da Vinci Titanium White is high quality watercolor that makes a great base for mixing colors and for creating new ones. I use it to thin colors and to come up with new shades of colors. It is high quality and covers well. I use it to cover mistakes and to create custom colors. It covers well and stands up to time. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Da Vinci Artists' Permanent Watercolor - Indigo, 15 ml tube

It is perfection and I am totally happy with the tone. Would have had a challenging time to recreate this by mixing colors.

Comments about Da Vinci Artists Permanent Watercolor - Cadmium Yellow Lemon, 15 ml tube

The Cad lemon has always done great and I can be sure that it is lightfast unlike some "organic pigment". The other great super light yellow that is fast moving on the paper is made by Golden- Qor and it is the nickel yellow which always used to be considered trash but the aquizol makes it move and it is neutral. I also enjoy the Deep Hansa Da Vinci and I put a drop of gall juice in the permanent alizarin move slower so this really helps. It shines back when it is so saturated so that helps. Many lovely pigments. #sweepstakes

Comments about Da Vinci Artists' Permanent Watercolor - Manganese Blue Mixture (CL), 15 ml tube

Best real manganese blue on the market. Most contain a bit of white as well but it is not a Phaloblue green shade substitute and I have found that a couple drops in my clean water of gall juice gets it moving as well as any other perhaps granular pigments. Great substitute for the very granular cerulean for skies . #sweepstakes

Comments about Da Vinci Artists' Permanent Watercolor - Phthalo Blue, 15 ml tube

I have been using DaVinci watercolors for years. They are artist grade and rewet well. They are also a bit cheaper than some other artist grade paints. #sweepstakes

I don't have anything negative to say! It applies smoothly and is a pure white.

I got about 14 tubes when it was on good sale to try out. I really enjoy using these paints! They rewet well. However, I have no idea why Blick says these are 50% off retail. On the Da Vinci site, they are the exact same prices and they say these are their everyday prices. That means Blick doesn't discount them at all, much less 50%.

Pigment Information

This color contains the following pigments:

PG18-Viridian

Pigment Name

PG18-Viridian

Pigment Type

inorganic

Chemical Name

chromium(III)-oxide dehydrate

Chemical Formula

Cr2O3 • 2 H2O or Cr2(OH3)

Properties

Viridian is the standard green and is stable, powerful, and cold with an emerald green undertone. It has a transparent hue, good tinting strength, a dark masstone that can be almost black at full strength, and a slow drying time in oil form. Viridian is commonly replaced by the darker, more saturated, and staining Phthalo Greens, but its properties make it a necessary part of the palette of an experienced landscape painter.

Permanence

Viridian has excellent permanence, except in high-temperature work, and is highly valued as a glazing color.

Toxicity

Viridian is slightly toxic.

History

Viridian’s name comes from the Latin viridis, meaning green. The process for manufacturing Viridian, or Transparent Oxide of Chromium, was patented by Guignet in Paris in 1859. However, it had actually been discovered by Pannetier and Binet in 1838. Viridian replaced Verdigris, which was reactive and unstable, and Emerald Green, which was a poisonous copper aceto-arsenite used as a rat poison in the sewers of Paris.
